Last week, Apple announced that more than 1 billion applications have been downloaded from the App Store, the largest mobile applications store in the world. It took Apple just 9 months to reach the one billion mark selling on average 110 million applications each month or 3.7 million each day.

If Apple continues at the same pace it would take another 9 months to sell 2 billionth application, however, if you look at the distribution of sales, first 500 million apps were download in January, six month after the App Store was launched. Which bring down the average sales per month to just 83 million and daily sales to just 2.7 million.

But, since announcement of 500 millionth app, the App Store has grown exponentially and sold another 500 million apps in just 3 months, almost doubling average month sales (160 million) and average daily sales (5.5 million). If App Store continues at the same pace it will reach the 2 billion mark in just over six month say by end of October 2009.

We believe that the Apple store will continue growing as new applications are added and more devices are sold, which will accelerate the growth further making it possible for App Store to reach 2 billion mark in less than six months.
