Dell’s Smartphone Lineup Revealed

Dell is getting serious about the smartphone market and the slides posted by Engadget reveal their upcoming smartphone like that includes both Windows Phone 7 and Android handsets. The oddly named devices will include Windows Phone 7 based handset called Lightning  (image on top) followed by three Android based handsets called Thunder, Flash and Smoke.

The Windows Phone 7 handset – Lightning will come with 1GHz QSD8250 Snapdragon processor, 4.1-inch WVGA OLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM, 1GB flash storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, accelerometer, compass and microSD card slot. The phone will support both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G networks. Lightning will have slider form factor with a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard. The phone should come to the market in Q4 2010 after Windows Phone 7 OS is launched.

Dell Thunder will be top of the line Android handset. It will be based on Android 2.1 with a custom UI from Dell called “Stage UI”, which is very different from UI’s on Aero or upcoming Streak tablet. The phone will have Facebook, Twitter, Hulu and YouTube integration. Thunder will have specifications similar to Lightning with 4.1-inch WVGA OLED touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera and support for AT&T’s 3G service. Dell Thunder will ship in Q4 2010 and Dell plans to introduce LTE version in late 2011.

Flash is the mainstream Android offering from Dell. The 11mm thick handset will come with Android Froyo OS, 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen, 800MHz MSM7230 Qualcomm processor, 5-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, WCDMA (850/1900/2100), GSM/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900), WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and microSD card slot. The handset will measure 4.62” x 2.28” x 0.43” and offer 12 hours talk time and 725 hours standby time. Dell Flash will also have Stage UI and will be released on AT&T in first quarter of 2011.

The last handset in Android lineup will be Palm Pixi like budget smartphone called Smoke. The candybar handset will have 2.8-inch QVGA screen, integrated QWERTY keypad, 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 5-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM and 256MB ROM, WiFi, Bluetooth and microSD card slot. The handset will measure 4.72” x 2.35” x 0.41” and offer 6 hours of 3G talk time. Dell Smoke will be launch in Q2 2011.
