More Voice Control Features Discovered in iPhone OS 3.0Submitted by lalit on April 21, 2009 - 9:34am.
Sources have revealed to Ars Technica evidence of various new voice control features that will be coming in iPhone 3.0. The codename for the new voice technology is “Jibbler” and the application is actually extension of SpringBoard (iPhone Finder) application, which can result in deeper voice control features throughout iPhone OS 3.0. The new iPhone 3.0 beta has references to classes and methods named VSSpeechSynthesizer, VSRecognitionSession, SBVoiceDisableHandlerActions, SBSensitiveJibblerEnabled, and SBVoiceControlSoundCompletion. Where SB refers to SpringBoard and VS likely means Voice Services. This indicates that voice control won’t just be an application, but it will be part of core iPhone OS giving access to developers to various voice services. Even though classes and methods for voice services are available in iPhone OS 3.0, voice control is not presently active in the beta OS indicating that Apple will announce the new feature when they release the next gen iPhone in June. The VoiceOver feature in new iPod shuffle is a good indicator of where Apple will start with voice control features. However, voice control will not be as limited on the iPhone as it is on the iPod shuffle.
