Leica has announced V-Lux 20, a 12.1-megapixel digital compact camera with 12x optical zoom lens and built-in GPS tagging. The camera features high-performance Leica DC-VARIO-ELMAR 4.1-49.2mm f/3.3-4.9 ASPH zoom lens with focal range of 25-300mm.

The GPS on the new camera allows users to record the exact geographical co-ordinates of their location automatically, as well as the local time for every shot. With the help of GPS the camera can also display the names of interesting sightseeing locations from a total of 500,000 ‘points of interest’ across 73 countries.

Leica V-Lux 20 can record video at 720p and offers features like intelligent automatic, face recognition, automatic scene modes and smart exposure for both movie recording and still images. The Leica V-LUX will ship in May 2010 priced $699/£495.

Though the feature set of the V-Lux 20 sounds good, you can get it for much cheaper on Panasonic ZS7 priced just $335.70 on Amazon, which is near identical twin of Leica. Also Panasonic offer better video recording with AVCHD Lite format compared to Motion JPEG support found on V-Lux 20.
