Verizon Wants iPhone on the Network, But Apple is MumSubmitted by lalit on April 6, 2010 - 7:00pm.
Verizon’s CEO Ivan Seidenberg said before Council of Foreign Relations that the company has told Apple it wants to carry the iPhone. He further added he has no information if Apple is working on such a device now. He decline to comment if and when the popular smartphone will be available for Verizon customers. Seidenberg said that he was aware about Wall Street Journal’s report, which stated Apple is working on a CDMA version of the iPhone for Verizon’s network. But again he didn’t comment on the topic. Verizon has shown interest in the iPhone before also. And few months back one of the top executives at Verizon said the “ball is now in Apple’s court”, when he was asked about iPhone launch on Verizon’s network. However, since 2008 all of these reports about iPhone coming to Verizon have just remained rumors, as Apple hasn’t introduced CDMA version of the iPhone yet. In theory, Apple could double the smartphone market share in US if iPhone is launched on Verizon. Presently, Apple has an exclusive agreement with AT&T for the iPhone, which many believe will end this year. But our source says that Apple has no plans to introduce iPhone on Verizon network for at least next six months.
