NVIDIA demoed their new all-in-one Tegra chipset that integrates CPU, GPU, Northbridge, Southbridge, memory and input/output connections on a single chip. According to NVIDIA, this ARM based component will be capable of 1080p video output on a mobile phone and powerful enough to run netbooks. However, the biggest achievement of the Tegra chipset will be that it will do all this while sipping just half watt of power. To achieve higher power efficiency NVIDIA utilized efficient processors and optimized the resource allocation.

Along with the new chip, NVIDIA was also showcasing the new interface that looked inspired by Apple’s Mac OS X. Companies adopting Tegra chipset can use the interface for their mobile internet devices. Tegra will also support Android, Windows Mobile and Windows CE. NVIDIA says that Tegra technology is very flexible and can easily be used with other platforms also.

The company demoed a HP Mini 1000 running on Tegra platform. The system was playing 720p video, which was limited by resolution of the screen on Mini 1000, and not hardware capabilities of Tegra platform. NVIDIA said that number of products based on Tegra chip should come to market by end of 2009 and the company is also working with OEM partners to produce $99 mobile Internet device with advanced graphics functionality.
