After years of speculations and wait, Tesla has finally announced Model 3, a $35,000 electric car. However, you won’t be able to get your hands on the car yet, as it won’t ship till end of 2017 and if pre-orders are any indication that wait might be till 2019. Tesla already has 200,000 pre-orders for the new car. According to the company’s CEO Elon Mush, that is more than $7.5 billion in revenue.
At the launch event yesterday, Musk claimed that the base Model 3 will do 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds, will have 215 miles range at least, offer autopilot, supercharging and one continuous pane of glass roof. Like the model S, the 3 will also have front and rear trunks and a large 15-inch LCD screen on the dashboard. Seating will be for five adults with enough room in the back for 6 feet tall adults.
Model 3 will come in single and dual motor versions. The single motor model 3 will be rear-wheel drive sedan and dual motor version will be all-wheel drive sedan. Musk also promised a quicker version that will have faster 0-60 time, but won’t be as fast as Insane mode on Model S.
Overall, Model 3 looks really interesting and shows the future of cars in a bright light. See the new car in action and Model 3 unveil event in videos below.
