The much awaited application Skype for iPhone is finally available from download on iTunes App Store. The Application is free and weighs in at 2.7MB. The application description of Skype on App store says:

  • Skype is free calls and instant messages. And you can call landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world at great rates. Skype is free to download and easy to use.
  • With Skype on your iPhone or iPod touch, simply sign into Skype from any WiFi zone, and call friends and family on Skype totally free.
  • Sign into Skype via 3G, EDGE, GPRS or WiFi and check who’s online – then instant message them whenever and wherever the mood strikes.

The system requirement for Skype is iPhone or iPod touch with iPhone OS 2.1 installed. Skype will definitely add more functionality to the iPhone, but it is the iPod touch that will benefit more, as it will give iPod touch owners phone functionality whenever they are near WiFi network. Also you can use Skype for instant messaging even when you are away from WiFi and are on 3G or EDGE network.
