RBC analyst Mike Abramsky claims that Apple will unveil a new and improved version of iPhone in June, he calls the new model iPhone 3G Pro and it will include a number of improvements:

  • Faster 3G, using the HSUPA standard, versions the current HSDPA
  • Improved graphics
  • Video recording/messaging
  • 16GB/32GB memory capacity
  • Possibly thinner
  • $199/$299 price points

Mike further adds that Apple may not launch a lower priced iPhone anytime soon based on his latest checks with industrial sources. He expects the new version to be offered on AT&T first and other markets second.

As you can see Mike Abramsky is just recycling the iPhone rumors that have be around since January this year. We are sure he has no idea what Apple is planning for next iPhone release. If he had any knowledge about mobile phones or next iPhone version, he would have known that HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) are both part of HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) standard. The next gen iPhone will definitely have faster 3G support and the standard that it will use is called HSPA+, which could have peak data rate up to 14Mbps in the downlink and 5.8Mbps in uplink. But next gen iPhone will only support up to 7Mbps downlink speed as a trade-off between higher network speed and better battery life.

The other information that he gives like improved graphics, video support and higher memory capacity has also been rumored for quite sometime now. Two specifications that he missed to mention were faster CPU and higher megapixel camera. Our sources say that Apple is definitely preparing to launch next gen iPhone and if you are launching something next gen, you have to have better specification than previous generation model. We don’t know the exact specification yet, but we will get more information in Q2 2009.
