In January, Apple announced the new 17-inch MacBook Pro with built-in battery that gives 8 hours of battery life. The 17-inch model also adopted the unibody manufacturing process that made it slimmer as well as lighter than any available 17-inch notebook on market. Like the other MacBook models the new 17-inch model also featured high resolution LED-backlit display and large glass Multi-Touch trackpad.

The specifications for the base model of 17-inch MacBook Pro are 1920 x 1200 resolution display, 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo processor (option of 2.93 GHz processor), 4GB DDR3 RAM (supports up to 8GB), dual graphics cards GeForce 9400M integrated and 9600M GT discrete, 320GB hard drive, 8X SuperDrive, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth and built-in iSight webcam. The base model is priced $2,799.

Most reviewers found that Apple's 8 hours battery life claim fell short when the screen was on full brightness and multiple applications including web surfing, photo editing, music and video playback were running. But when the screen was at half brightness and user were doing web surfing and document editing the 17-inch MacBook reached almost 8 hours of battery life. PC Mag’s conclusion sums it all up “The Apple MacBook Pro 17-inch  (unibody) is an easy recommendation for professional photographers, video editors, and sophisticated media enthusiasts. It was inconceivable that a design as attractive as the previous version could be outdone, but Apple somehow pulled it off, as the 17-inch is sexier and still the lightest in its class.”
