Apple today introduced the new iPad featuring the seriously stunning new Retina display, A5X processor with quad core graphics, 5-megapixel camera with same optics as found on iPhone 4S and support of 4G LTE.

“The new iPad redefines the category Apple created less than two years ago, delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos.”

Apple is replacing the old 1024 x 768 resolution display with a new 2048 x 1536 Retina Display on the new iPad that has 3.1 million pixels, one million more pixels than any HDTV. The new Retina Display also has 44% more color saturation offering richer, deeper and more vivid colors.

The new 5-megapixel camera on the new iPad uses the same optics found on much acclaimed iPhone 4S camera. Apple is calling the new camera iSight because of its advanced optics. The camera can also record 1080p video with image stabilization. The front camera remains the same as iPad 2 with VGA resolution.

Apple says the new A5X chip has twice the graphics performance of current A5 chip to power the new Retina display. The new chip still has dual core CPU, but the dual core GPU on A5 has been replaced by new quad core GPU. The WiFi +4G version now supports 4G LTE, HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA along with the usual CDMA and GSM frequencies.

Apple has increased the battery size on the new iPad to 42.5 watt-hour from 25 watt-hour on iPad 2. However, battery life remains the same at 10 hours. Other features on the new iPad are Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS, digital compass, accelerometer, Gyroscope and ambient light sensor. The new iPad is slightly thicker at 0.37-inch and weigh slightly more at 1.44 pounds.
