NVIDIA Launches Four Notebook and One Desktop Graphics CardsSubmitted by lalit on March 3, 2009 - 9:53pm.
NVIDIA today launched four new mobile graphics chips at CeBIT. The top of the range GeForce GTX 260M and GeForce GTX 280M will be 50 percent faster than previous generation 9800M chips. The GTX 280M will have full 128 shader processors, 1463MHz processor clock speed, 950MHz memory clock speed and 562 Gigaflops performance. Whereas the GeForce GTX 260M will have 112 processor cores, 1375MHz processor clock, 950MHz memory clock and 462 Gigaflops performance. While the GTX 260M and 280M are aimed at gaming and enthusiast notebooks, NVIDIA also announced GeForce GTS 150M and GTS 160M for slimmer notebooks. The GeForce GTS 160M will have 64 processor cores, 1500MHz processor speed, 800MHz memory speed and 288 Gigaflops performance. The GTS 150M will share the same number of processor cores and memory clock speed, but it will lack in performance due to 1GHz processor clock speed compared to 1.5GHz found on 160M. NIVIDIA claims that their notebook graphics cards are the fastest available on market. On the desktop side, NVIDIA introduced new GeForce GTS 250 graphics cards that will compete with ATI Radeon HD 4850 card. The GTS 250 uses the same 55nm G92 core found on old GeForce 9800 GTX+ card that has 1836MHz processor clock speed. Basically, NVIDIA is just rebranding the old graphics card. NVIDIA says that the new GTS 250 will have slightly better performance and lower power requirement at 150W TDP. The 512MB GTS 250 graphics card will be priced $129 and the 1GB GTS 250 card will be priced $149. All the cards announced today are available now.
