We have been hearing about MacBook Pro getting a complete design refresh sometime this year. And now DigiTimes is reporting that the new thinner and lighter design will come in April and create significant threat against other notebooks players. Aaron Lee wrote:

Apple is expected to launch new MacBook Pro notebooks with an even thinner and lighter design than existing models in April, at the soonest. When paired with the company's upcoming Mountain Lion operating system as well as Apple's MacBook Air models, the product lines are expected to create a significant threat against notebook players' ultrabooks, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Since Intel is delaying the mass supply of its Ivy Bridge CPUs from April to June, notebook vendors are concerned about that the postponed launch schedules of their ultrabooks, as it may give Apple advantages in terms of time-to-market, the sources noted.

DigiTimes is also reporting that Apple is working on a 14-inch MacBook Air model, as Apple wants to become more aggressive in Chinese market where 14-inch laptops are mainstream. DigiTimes posted:

Currently, 14-inch panels are the mainstream specification of the Asia notebook market, while consumers in Western countries prefer 15-inch models. In the global market, 14-inch models have an about 20-25% market share, but in Asia, the market share is about 35-40%, an indication of Asia consumers' fondness for 14-inch models, the sources noted.

We haven’t heard anything about 14-inch MacBook Air model from our sources, but they say that Apple is hard at work to bring the thinner and lighter MacBook Pro model to the market in Q2 2012.
