Panasonic today introduced first really sexy Android device called Panasonic ELUGA, which the company says means “elegant user oriented getaway”. This 7.8mm (0.30-inch) thin device comes with 4.3-inch (960 x 540) OLED screen, dual core 1GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and NFC support.

Panasonic says the smartphone is protected by international standard IP57 water- and dust-proofing and can last 1 meter underwater for up to 30 and up to 8 hours in open desert environment. The handset also has Panasonic’s eco mode that could increase battery life by up to 25-30%.

Despite the unprecedented increase in the number of smartphone devices appearing over the last few years, we don’t believe anyone has yet managed to truly bridge the gap between style and substance. With the launch of the ELUGA, we’re aiming to prove it is possible to deliver style, function, form, and the very best underlying technology, all in a competitively-priced package.” – Matsumura

The ELUGA will ship with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, but Panasonic promises Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will come in summer 2012. Panasonic will ship the device in Europe in April 2012. No word yet on pricing or releases date for other regions. [Via SlashGear]
