Apple iPhone 5 to Feature RFID Technology with a TwistSubmitted by lalit on February 20, 2011 - 11:03pm.
Most handset makers and carriers are focusing on using RFID technology for electronic payment systems. However, analyst Brain White of Ticonderoga Securities says that Apple will use the technology with “a twist that will make it unique versus their peers.” White added his sources have indicated that Apple will use near-filed communications (NFC) in next iPhone, but they had no idea how Apple will implement this technology. There have been rumors that Apple has been working on NFC for quite sometime and plans to use it not only for electronic payment system, but also for things like wireless syncing, data sharing and remote computing. Apple has already filed patents related to use of RFID technology in the above-mentioned functions. Our sources say that Apple’s implementation of NFC using RFID will be very interesting and useful for both consumers and corporate users also. And they added that iPad 2 would be the first Apple device to get RFID.
