Almost two week before the Mobile World Congress expo, LG posted official pictures of the KM900 Arena on their blog stating, “All will be revealed at Mobile World Congress…” LG kept its promise and confirmed final specs of the flagship Arena handset. The phone uses S-Class 3D user interface to hide Windows Mobile OS by an iPhone like interface design. The S-Class 3D interface allows users to flick between applications by turning the home screen cube like design. On the hardware side it comes with 5-megapixel camera, 3-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution, 8GB of on-board storage, tri-band HSPA, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and microSDHC card slot. The phone will be released in Europe by end of Q1 2009 and rest of the world will get the device later this year. And as the phone support 850MHz frequencies for GSM it is very likely that it will be launched in US soon after.
Along with flagship Arena, LG also announced the first phone based on Windows Mobile 6.5 called GM730. Like the KM900 Arena, the GM730 also uses S-Class 3D user interface and features a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus. The 3-inch touchscreen on the phone has 240 x 400 resolution and the phone is just 0.47-inch thick. No other information about the hardware has been released, but it’s very likely that it will have almost same configuration found on Arena. LG is planning to ship the phone in first half of 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.1 installed, however, a software upgrade will give users access to Windows Mobile 6.5 in second half of the year.
The last new phone that LG showcased at MWC was stylish GD900 targeting fashion conscious customers. The phone features a unique transparent slide-out keypad with lighting to keep it useful in the dark. It will also come with a matching Bluetooth headset. No other information about the phone was released by LG. It will ship in second half of 2009.
