iPod Observer is reporting that Apple is preparing to roll out an updated version of its 16GB iPhone 3G. An image that they received from their source shows a new back design and a new model number A1303. The new case appears matte black and not glossy black found on present generation iPhone. Also the present generation iPhone has model no. A1241. According to iPod Observer, their sources have previously been reliable, but take this one with an appropriately dosed grain of salt.
In other iPhone news, Apple has started talks with China Unicom for launch of iPhone in China, after their failed negotiations with China Mobile. A manager of China Unicom has told China Business News “yes, we are in talks with Apple Inc.” China Unicom will be launching their WCDMA network on May 17th and if the company pulls off an iPhone deal before that it will be a huge boost for its 3G business. The two main hurdles in reaching an agreement are WiFi functionality of the iPhone, which Chinese regulations don’t allow and pre-installed software on the iPhone like App Store and YouTube.
