Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek claims, “Three new iPhone could be coming in 2009. The first is a 32GB iphone in multiple colors that is likely to arrive during the next six months. Next up is a lower-cost handset based on the 2.5G iPhone, which is targeted for China and India. Third is a smaller version – about one-third the size of the 3G iPhone – that costs 40 percent less and is also likely before year-end.” Peter says his report is based on recent checks with Apple’s carrier partners and carriers believe the smaller iPhone could have a $99 price point.
As we have previously said our sources have confirmed that iPhone update is coming in June and also that Apple is working on a second iPhone model. Now we don’t know whether the second model will be a 2.5G based model for India and China or a smaller iPhone version priced $99.
We believe that Apple needs to add more models to its iPhone lineup, like it did with the iPod lineup, to achieve constant increase in sales. In an informal survey we asked 40 people about the iPhone. Out of 40, Ten owned or were planning to buy an iPhone, 15 were interested in a iPhone but didn’t wanted the data plan or carrier and the rest 15 were happy with their present cellphone. This shows that Apple could double iPhone sales just by adding another model to meet the needs of people who don’t want 3G data on the go.
