The upcoming Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will include geographical location and multitouch apps support. According to AppleInsider, people familiar with the Snow Leopard beta released few days back say that the OS includes CoreLocation framework and a Cocoa based programming interface for leveraging the multitouch function.
The CoreLocation framework is similar to the one found on the iPhone and it will use WiFi triangulation for location based applications, as Mac don’t come with built-in GPS. This will improve location awareness of your system and provide better location related information. For example, search for movie tickets will show you the nearest theater without even putting in your zip code.
The multitouch programming interface will give easy access to developers for leveraging the multitouch features of the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros within their applications. The programming interface will consist of code libraries and functions allowing developers to easily use two, three or four finger gestures in their applications. Though this is nowhere as exciting as Cocoa Touch framework found on iPhone for multitouch, but it’s start. Plus, Cocoa Touch is already working on the iPhone and Apple can adopt it in Mac OS X whenever they want.
