Rumor Roundup: Macworld Expo 2009

Rumor for Macworld Expo 2009 started in early December when XSKN leaked images of silicone case design for the new iPod nano. Initially, iPhone nano was the most talked about item for Macworld Expo 2009. But soon Mac related products started taking the center stage.
Mac mini was the first Mac that got attention from the rumor mill. The speculation is that the new Mac mini will come with dual display support (mini DisplayPort and DVI), NVIDIA GeForce 9400 Chipset and Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Some bloggers believe that mini will have an aluminum body with partial black plastic casing. Rumor about the Mac mini will likely come true, according to our sources close to Apple.
Next inline is iMac, It was previously rumored that the all-in-one desktop will be revamped before holiday season, but that didn’t happen. Now according to the rumors, the new iMac will come in five models. Two 20-inch models with higher-end model carrying GeForce 9600M graphics card, two 24-inch in model with regular models carrying 9600M graphics and the higher-end model with 9800M graphics card, and lastly a 28-inch model that will use Intel’s new Core i7 quad-core processor and NVIDIA’s 9800 graphics card. The iMac will have new magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis and new cooling system. There is also a rumor that all the iMacs will use Intel’s new quad core processors, which is unlikely but possible.
Recent rumors are focusing on 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro that will have built in battery, which will last up to 50 percent longer than current battery, but will be non-user replaceable. This will make the 17-inch MacBook thinner and lighter than present model while boosting performance. Apple will definitely release a unibody 17-inch Macbook Pro, but when it will be released or will it have in-built battery is anybody’s guess.
According to Ryan Shrout, Apple will also upgrade Mac Pros with Intel’s new Core i7 based Xeon chips. He also believes that Apple will upgrade graphics by using NVIDIA’s GT200 graphics card series. There won’t be much change to overall design of the Mac Pro casing.
The last Mac related rumor is about a netbook from Apple. Some are calling it MacBook nano and others are calling it MacBook touch. It is believed that Apple will show a device that is bigger than iPod but smaller that MacBook. Touchscreen will be the main source of input. According to James Holland “we’re talking about a Mac small enough to slip into any bag or purse, but with enough power to kick the Asus Eee, MSI Wind and even Sony’s VAIO netbook right where it hurts.”
The other hardware rumors include a mouse that will feature an accelerometer. The new mouse will be a successor to Mighty Mouse and will come in a wireless only version. The new mouse will not only replace Mighty Mouse but also the Apple Remote Control.
On the Software side the rumor is that Apple will move the iWork and iLife services to the cloud. The cloud based iWork and iLife services will expand the reach of these Mac only softwares to other platforms.
