As always we are not ranking the laptops because these laptops are from different categories offering different set of functionalities. CNET’s Dan Ackerman wrote in his review “The Toshiba Portege R705 is as close to a perfect balance of design, price, and performance as you'll find in a Windows laptop.” Our suggestion is go with the Core i5 model and not the Core i3 model as the laptop comes with integrated Intel graphics only. Dell XPS 15: You can get a 15-inch laptop for as little as $500, but if you want laptop with good configuration and performance Dell XPS 15 is one of the best options available below $1,000. As always we would suggest that you go with the Core i5 model as it offers perfect balance of performance and price. Scott Stein of CNET wrote in his review “Dell's new line of XPS laptops, including the XPS 15, offers more bang for the buck than most, combining great audio and rock-solid features for less than $1,000.” Dell XPS 15 with 2.53GHz Core i5 460M processor is available on Dell’s website for $799.

Apple MacBook: Apple’s new white unibody MacBook is the cheapest available Mac laptop on the market. It comes with 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA 320M graphics and unmatched 10 hours of battery life. According to reviewers, the MacBook is perfect for students and budget conscious shoppers offering the best combination of features and performance. Apple MacBook is available on Amazon for $969.

Asus N53JF: The Asus N53JF is one of the best entertainment notebooks available below $1,000 price mark. The 15.6-inch laptop comes with Bang & Olufsen speakers and full HD (1080p) screen. Laptop Mag’s K.T. Bradford wrote in his review “Multimedia power, sweet sound, and a modern design make this 15.6-inch notebook one to own.” The laptop comes with Core i5 processor, NVIDIA GT425M graphics and 4GB RAM.
